Russian Ambassador to Lebanon marks Victory Day, urges protection of historical truth
NNA – On the occasion of Victory Day, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, on Friday delivered a powerful message commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, underscoring the pivotal role of the Soviet Union in defeating Nazi Germany and warning against historical revisionism.
“On this sacred day, we bow our heads before the heroism of those who defended freedom and independence not only for our Motherland, but for the entire world,” Rudakov stated, emphasizing the Soviet Union’s disproportionate burden and sacrifice during the war.
Highlighting that over 75% of all German divisions were crushed on the Eastern Front and that one in three war casualties was a Soviet citizen, the ambassador rejected Western attempts to “belittle our ancestors’ role in defeating the ‘brown plague.’”
He cited key milestones such as the Battle of Kursk and the liberation of European capitals by Soviet troops, asserting that “the feat of our fathers is not merely a historical fact, but a persistent and undeniable pattern.”
Rudakov also addressed current geopolitical tensions, condemning what he called “Russophobia” and attempts to equate liberators with aggressors. “Remembrance is not just a moral category; it is the foundation of sovereignty,” he said.
Reaffirming Russia’s commitment to peace and opposition to neo-Nazism “whether in Kiev or anywhere else,” Rudakov concluded by urging continued remembrance and vigilance: “May memory and truth endure. Happy Victory Day!”
